Hotel Review: Les Mouettes, Ajaccio, Corsica

It was early May and I was enjoying a 25°C in a Corsican sun, station on a patio of a 4* Hôtel-Demeure Les Mouettes, listening to a waves of a Mediterranean sea next me and admiring a Bay of Ajaccio.

This 19th Century villa, partial of a Châteaux Hôtels Collection, has been renovated and decorated in pastel hues, regulating peculiarity materials to emanate what a owner, Jean-Baptiste Pieri calls “discrete luxury”. White arches contrariety opposite the ochre façade and in unison with the pine and palm trees, it looks like a neoclassical Italian villa.

Even so, this is one of Corsica’s first palatial properties selected by celebrities such as Maria Callas or Michael Schumacher as a place to stay in a region.

I stayed in a Privilege Room, a atmospheric 25m² room with beige carpets resisting opposite all-white walls and furniture. My favourite impulse was relaxing with a book on a breathtaking sea perspective terrace, shower up the Mediterranean sun.

Food Drink

Although there is no grill during Les Mouettes, this is not a problem: Ajaccio city centre is reduction than 30 mins travel along a coastline and has a far-reaching operation of normal and complicated restaurants. For those feeling peckish in a afternoon, a epicurean break bar serves organic plantation products like Corsican cheese and charcuterie and a preference of internal wines.

For breakfast, comfortable bread and croissants or a baked breakfast (I chose scrambled eggs and ham), as good as uninformed fruit are served on a patio unaware a sea, underneath a shade of a ancient hunger tree.

There is a tiny private sandy beach in front of a hotel with plenty of object loungers and complimentary snorkelling rigging for hotel guest to use. You can rent one of hotel’s stand-up paddles and try a Bay of Ajaccio.

There is also a large seawater swimming pool, exhilarated between April and October. The jacuzzi, also heated, creates for a really regretful setting, as it is tucked in a dilemma of a terrace, directly unaware a sea.

The sauna facilities an open air, exhilarated diagnosis room and a hamam.

What’s Nearby

A short walk will take we to a centre of Ajaccio, a hearth of a French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte. Casa Bonaparte, a residence in that he was innate in 1769 is currently a museum. Another museum good value a revisit is the Musée Fesch, containing one of France’s excellent collections of aged masters, including Botticelli, Canaletto, De Tura, Titian, Veronese, and Poussin. The 16th Century Cathedral has a lovely ochre Baroque façade and murals embellished by Tintoretto and Delacroix inside.

Nearby is a scenic Route des Sanguinaires, braggadocio a period of small, isolated beaches. Hire a bicycle from a hotel and conduct towards a Pointe de la Parata to see a fantastic perspective of a Sanguinaires Islands.

Prices start from €115 per room per night for a back perspective room in low season. Sea perspective Privilege Room with private patio costs from €265 in low deteriorate to €520 in a rise summer months of Jul and August. Breakfast is additional and costs €20.

Value for Money

Great value for a oppulance hotel in a pleasing location with an outstanding service. The usually tiny downside would be a cost of breakfast which, nonetheless delicious, is in my opinion overpriced.
